Andy must prove how much Barney is really needed. This was the first episode filmed for the show's second season, although it was not the first one shown.Notes/TriviaAlthough Barney gets mad and resigns from the force several times before he finally resigns and move to Raleigh after the fifth season, this is the only time Barney ever spends any real time away from the force.Barney mentions that he and Thelma Lou will be getting hitched soon. Although this never came to pass until the "Return to Mayberry" movie, it's notable that the writers had their union in mind early in the series. The series was filmed entirely in Hollywood, at Desilu Productions on the former RKO Pictures lot. Mayberry exteriors were shot on the former Selznick International Pictures lot, later known as Forty Acres. The rural fishing hole that opened each episode was Franklin Canyon Lake, just north of Beverly Miele S5211 Hills. Franklin Canyon was also the site of the show's Myers Lake and other outdoor locales. The whistled theme song, "The Fishin' Hole" was composed by Earle Hagen (the music coordinator and famous whistler of the exhibit) and Herbert Spencer, with unsung lyrics by Everett Sloane. Hagen also wrote the music for the series.More From Mayberry Come join in the fun of The Andy Griffith Present Online Hangman Game. It's therapetic!
